WILL SELF-DESCRIBED “WELD” REPUBLICAN CHARLIE BAKER KEEP ROOTING FOR FAILURE?

Going on over 100 Hours of Silence Following Positive Job Numbers, Will Republican Baker Remain Quiet about Massachusetts’ improving jobs picture?

BOSTON – Following last Thursday’s announcement that Massachusetts’s unemployment rate dropped once again, to 5.5%, MassDems Coordinated Campaign Chair Ben Downing released the following statement calling on Republican Charlie Baker to recognize the improving economy and stop tearing down our Commonwealth.

“Massachusetts is on the right track, whether Republican Charlie Baker wants to admit it or not. Republican Baker’s now had over 100 hours to say something – anything – good about our economy, but instead he’s been on the sidelines rooting for failure,” said Downing. “Last week’s news is more independent verification that Massachusetts is back in the leadership business, thanks to Governor Patrick and Democrats across the state. But leadership isn’t something you turn on and off. As these job numbers show, we need to keep improving and creating economic opportunity, and that’s what Democrats are working on right now. Voters know Democrats are the ones instituting policies that brought us out of the recession faster and stronger while Republican Charlie Baker is proposing the same tired, failed policies that left us 47th in the nation in job creation.”

Voters see in 2014 the same old 2010 Republican Charlie Baker, rooting for failure in our state to help him politically. And now, they see him self-describe as a 1990s “Weld Republican,” which comes complete with their Big Dig financing scheme that deliberately misled voters about the cost overruns in an attempt to win an election all while hurting our roads and bridges program.

MassDems has placed on a running clock on its website tracking the time since the positive numbers were released and how long Republican Baker has remained silent.
