BOSTON—Last month, the Massachusetts Democratic Party challenged the embattled New Jersey governor Chris Christie and Republican Charlie Baker to answer questions about the alleged pay-to-play scheme.
Months after Massachusetts voters became aware of Republican Charlie Baker’s alleged connection to the pay-to-play scheme and potential violations of New Jersey law, he has not answered these important questions:
1. If no laws were broken, why is New Jersey divesting from the fund in question?
2. Has Republican Charlie Baker been subpoenaed by the New Jersey State Treasurer’s office? Has Republican Charlie Baker been asked to testify without a subpoena?
3. Will Republicans Baker and Christie call for the New Jersey State Treasurer’s office to release its report on the investigation?
4. How much money from the fund in question was invested in companies that pay Republican Baker directly or the LLC set up in his name? How much money is Republican Baker going to make off the sale of the fund in question?
5. The Republican National Committee filed a federal lawsuit to loosen pay-to-play restrictions— was Republican Baker part of the discussion? Does Republican Baker support the lawsuit?
