Latest TV Ad Neglects to Mention Rate Hikes, Layoffs and Tripling of Own Salary
Boston—In its latest attempt to fool voters into believing Republican Charlie Baker’s time as a health insurance CEO was positive for Massachusetts families, the Super Pac Commonwealth Futures – funded nearly entirely by embattled Republican Chris Christie’s Republican Governors Association – has put out a new ad touting Republican Baker’s leadership at Harvard Pilgrim. The Massachusetts Democratic Party released the following statement about Republican Baker’s real record when he was a health insurance CEO.
“While questions still remain unanswered about the pay-to-play controversy involving Republican Charlie Baker and embattled New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie, we’re now seeing over $1 million that Republican Christie is directing to Massachusetts to help his Republican friend through the Super PAC supporting Baker,” said Democratic Coordinated Campaign Chair Ben Downing. “Voters won’t be fooled by the misinformation in this latest Republican ad. Voters know Republican Baker’s real record as a healthcare CEO. During his time running Harvard Pilgrim, Republican Baker cut nearly 2,000 jobs, raised premiums 150% costing families an average $3000 per year all while tripling his salary to $1.7 million a year. All this happened as he sat on the sidelines while the hard work was done to lead the nation in coverage.”
