Statement of MDP Chair Gus Bickford on Charlie Baker’s Failure to Attend Today’s Rally in Support of Federal Workers
Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford released the following statement in reaction to Governor Charlie Baker’s failure to attend the January 17th rally on the State House steps in support of federal workers impacted by the ongoing shutdown:
“As federal workers and lawmakers stood in front of the Massachusetts Statehouse, calling on President Trump to end the government shutdown and provide stability for families that have gone nearly a month without a paycheck, Governor Baker was once again nowhere to be found. Baker has failed to clearly call on leaders in his own party, including the President, to end their pursuit of billions in taxpayer funding for an unnecessary border wall. It is past time for him to call for the President to reopen the government. Baker promised to stand up for the people of Massachusetts – like the thousands of workers whose livelihoods are at stake in this shutdown – he needs to live up to that promise.”
