Statement from MDP Chair Gus Bickford on #ParklandStrong and the anniversary of Parkland
Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford released the following statement on the one year anniversary of the school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida:
“A year after Parkland, we are still mourning the 17 young people whose lives were stolen. Just like we are still mourning those lost in Las Vegas, Orlando, Charleston, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech, San Bernadino, Sutherland Springs, and so many others. Just like we mourn the nearly 100 people who lose their lives to guns every day in this country. But we are thankful for the brave young people who honor the memory of their classmates by raising their voices and saying “enough,” and for the activists and elected leaders – including all those in Massachusetts – who are fighting every day for common sense gun control. We are proud that every member of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation has co-sponsored legislation in this Congress to make universal background checks a reality. We will continue to honor those killed in Parkland – today and everyday – by supporting elected officials and candidates who are committed to ending gun violence once and for all.”
