Below, please find a statement from MDP Chair Gus Bickford in response to recent revelations about mismanagement at the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV):
“In 2014, Charlie Baker promised to improve operations at the Registry of Motor Vehicles, but in the past few days, we’ve learned that just the opposite happened. Under Baker’s leadership, the RMV simply stopped performing basic functions critical to ensuring public safety. As reports have revealed the scale of inaction at the RMV, Baker has called the situation “unacceptable.” This is becoming a familiar refrain for the Governor, but so far it hasn’t disrupted his “hands off” approach – including a trip to Europe just as the fundamental problems at the RMV were coming to light. It leaves us all to wonder when the Governor will accept responsibility and show the leadership necessary to make real changes to keep people in Massachusetts safe.”
