MBTA MUST FIX SERVICE, NOT PLAY GAMES WITH WORKERS’ SOCIAL SECURITY
BOSTON – Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford responded to today’s Boston Globe story that reports the Baker Administration wants to manipulate Social Security retirement benefits for MBTA employees:
“Rather than focusing on improving service, the Baker administration treats T riders and employees as second class citizens. Manipulating Social Security retirement benefits for MBTA workers who have earned them is a new low, even for the Baker administration. Yet, once again, MBTA management is using bogus data to advance a political agenda that targets workers.
“Enough with higher fares, service cuts, poor maintenance, mismanagement of the commuter rail, and constant delays. Massachusetts families are just trying to get to work and back home again. They don’t want to take away the Social Security retirement that T workers have already paid for.”
