MassDems Statement on Primary Victories
Following today's primary victories by Joseph Boncore, Joan Meschino, and Dan Cahill, Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Tom McGee released the following statement:
"I want to congratulate Joe, Joan, and Dan, on their victories tonight.
"It's important to note that in a sign of continued strength for the Democratic Party, the Republicans won't even field an opponent for Joe and Dan.
"I look forward to welcoming them both to the legislature where under Democratic leadership we lead the fight to level the playing field for working families.
"I'm excited to get to work on the South Shore electing Joan Meschino our next state Senator. After four consecutive Democratic victories in recent special elections – all of which were marked by overwhelming questionable outside spending and campaigning by Republican Super PACs and Gov. Baker – we're expecting Republicans to spend whatever they think it takes to hold a seat they've had for over 20 years.
"In spite of this, I'm confident our Democratic activists and elected leadership will rally behind Joan and we'll be knocking on doors across the district spreading our positive message. As we've seen in the past, when our Democratic activists and elected officials pool our resources, our grassroots power beats outside Republican spending.
"I also want to thank all the candidates who put their names on the ballot across the districts. While they came up short today, their voices and their values make our Party stronger and I look forward to working with them as we elect Democrats up and down the ballot in November."
