MassDems Statement on Gov. Baker
In light of Gov. Charlie Baker’s announcement that he would sign a transgender pubic accommodations bill should it reach his desk, the Massachusetts Democratic Party released the following statement:
“After getting pushed into it, Gov. Baker's announcement today is a victory for all the transgender advocates and activists who challenged him to come down on the right side of history. While we are glad he finally signaled his willingness to support an end to discrimination against transgender citizens, we can't help but wonder: what took so long? Gov. Baker's waffling highlights the kind of status quo, lack of real vision and leadership we’ve seen on a range of issues. Voters look to our state’s governors to lead, not to keep us in a state of status quo; Massachusetts is used to leading the way, not falling behind.”
