MASSDEMS CO-CHAIR BEN DOWNING BLASTS REPUBLICAN CHARLIE BAKER FOR ROOTING FOR FAILURE
Despite Advisor’s Attempts to Reshape His Image, Republican Charlie Baker Proves to be the Same Negative Candidate from 2010
(Boston) – On the heels of media reports detailing Republican Charlie Baker’s attempts to reshape the negative image that plagued him in 2010, Republican Baker today was quoted criticizing Massachusetts by citing a survey from a Kansas City think tank. Once again, Republican Charlie is proving he’s still sitting on the sidelines rooting for the Commonwealth to fail.
“This is the same old Republican Charlie Baker, who, just like in 2010, is sitting on the sidelines rooting for failure,” said MassDems Coordinated Campaign Chair Ben Downing. “Since his negative, losing campaign it seems Republican Charlie Baker has been too busy working as a healthcare consultant in Texas and Louisiana to notice that Massachusetts set a record for job growth and we’re leading the nation in the economy of the future – clean energy and life sciences.”
While the sky is falling in Republican Charlie Baker’s world, in reality Massachusetts continues to lead the nation in job creation and innovation:
- In March, Massachusetts set an all-time record with 3.4 million jobs
- Our last quarter of job growth was the highest since 2000 and independent economists at UMASS said our economy is growing at “warp speed”
- The independent Beacon Hill Institute at Suffolk University ranked Massachusetts No. 1 in business competitiveness
- Job growth and GDP growth above national average for the past 7 years – under Republican administrations from the 7 previous years, our job growth and GDP growth had been below national average
- Our unemployment rate dropped to 5.6% and Massachusetts Democrats are working on ideas everyday to help improve it
- Massachusetts is leading the nation in life sciences jobs, with 113,000
- Created 80,000 jobs in clean energy and leading the nation in energy efficiency
- Our population is growing and outpacing all other New England states
- University of Nebraska survey ranked Massachusetts No. 1 in entrepreneurship survey
- Top 10 rankings from the conservative U.S. Chamber of Commerce in economic performance and technology and entrepreneurship
