Massachusetts Drops from #1 to #8 Because of Baker’s Mismanagement

BOSTON – Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford today responded to reports that, under Governor Charlie Baker, Massachusetts has lost our ranking as the #1 US State by U.S. News and World Reports, with the state falling to eighth in the nation:

“From day one, it’s been crystal clear that Governor Baker has no plan to move the Commonwealth forward.

“On Charlie’s watch, our state’s bond rating was downgraded for the first time in thirty years, and we’re now ranked 48th in the nation in short-term fiscal stability.

“On Charlie’s watch, overdose rates have risen every year while he makes cuts to vital addiction prevention and treatment programs.

“On Charlie’s watch, we have a public transit system that is falling apart due to his continued mismanagement, roads and bridges that are crumbling due to his failure to invest, and our infrastructure is 45th in the nation.

“On Charlie’s watch, working families and residents have to worry about whether or not he’s going to take away their healthcare or force them to pay higher premiums.

“On Charlie’s watch, billionaire outsiders tried to take billions of dollars away from our first-in-the-nation public schools, with the Governor’s enthusiastic support.

“Governor Baker seems complacent with his status quo administration, but we cannot afford to continue down this path. We deserve better.”
