Massachusetts Democrats Respond to Governor Baker’s Plans to Run for Re-Election
BOSTON – Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford released the following statement in response to reports that Governor Charlie Baker is running for re-election:
“Next fall, Massachusetts voters will have a clear choice between Governor Baker and a Democratic candidate with a strong vision and agenda for the Commonwealth.
“While we face an increasing number of opioid overdoses and an MBTA that is falling apart under the Governor’s mismanagement, Baker has refused to advance a plan that would truly solve these emergencies. Instead, he’s tried to kick 100,000 working parents off of Medicaid and pursued an ideological privatization agenda at the T.
“With a lack of accomplishments to tout, the Governor has failed on many of his strongest campaign promises – from improving commuter rail to combating the high costs of healthcare. It’s time for the Governor and his work to face the scrutiny of the voters.
“We look forward to working with the eventual Democratic nominee to show voters that Massachusetts deserves a Governor with a real agenda to address the big issues that working families face.”
