Massachusetts Democrats Host Second Annual Chinatown Banquet

BOSTON – On Thursday, April 4, 2019, The Massachusetts Democratic Party, Boston City Councilor Michelle Wu and Mayor Martin J. Walsh co-hosted the second annual Chinatown Banquet to support the Democratic Party’s millennial organizing efforts.

“Young people play a critical role in the Democratic Party. We’ve seen the difference they can make when they organize and come out to vote in big numbers. The next generation is ready to contribute. We must listen to them and support them,” said Mayor Walsh. “Climate change, affordable housing, access to quality healthcare– we can’t solve some of the biggest challenges we face without their involvement and leadership. I know our future is in good hands.”

“I’m grateful to the Massachusetts Democratic Party for reigniting a proud tradition with a fresh aim to empower millennial leadership. Last night, Democrats from across Massachusetts came together in friendship and fellowship, raising resources for a focus on engaging millennials and students across the Commonwealth,” said Councilor Wu. “We’re lifting up the next generation of voters, staffers, and activists so that they have a place in our organizing efforts today, and they know we’re ready to have their backs tomorrow.”

Both the 2018 and 2019 banquets were sold-out affairs that funded a millennial organizer, hired by the Party in June of 2018. This year’s proceeds will continue funding the millennial organizer position as well as training opportunities for millennials and direct voter contact.

“Millennials have a vitally important role to play in the future – and present – of our Party and our state, and Massachusetts Democrats are committed to ensuring that we are creating opportunities for young people to get engaged in politics,” said MassDems Chair Gus Bickford “Elected Democrats on Beacon Hill and DC are doing that work legislatively, and with events like the Chinatown banquet, the Massachusetts Democratic Party is sustaining our robust organizing efforts aimed at millennials.”
