Massachusetts Democrats Condemn President Trump’s Racist Outburst
BOSTON – The Massachusetts Democratic Party today issued the following statement regarding President Trump’s racist outburst in defense of white supremacists:
“On Tuesday, President Trump spoke from his heart, and once again we saw the hatred at his core,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford. “The Massachusetts Democratic Party condemns the President’s inflammatory and racist words. Massachusetts will not tolerate white supremacy or hate.”
The voices of our Democratic elected officials couldn’t be stronger:
Senator Elizabeth Warren: “The President of the United States just defended neo-Nazis and blamed those who condemn their racism and hate. This is sick.”
Senator Ed Markey: “It’s a sad day in American history when the President of the United States defends white supremacists…Trump’s true thoughts were clearly on display today during his press conference. Condemning white supremacists shouldn’t be difficult.”
Attorney General Maura Healey: “The President’s unhinged defense of neo-Nazi and alt-right bigots is despicable…Americans need a president that will lead — not divide. We are better than this. Our shared values of unity and equality will overcome hate.”
Treasurer Deb Goldberg: “When we first saw Trump playing to people’s worst instincts, I knew no group was safe if this continued…These are dangerous times and all people of good will must rise in protest!”
Congressman Michael Capuano: “We can’t let white supremacists define our country. America must stand up – either we live together in peace or perish together in hate…For me, I choose peace, tolerance, and equality for all.”
Congresswoman Katherine Clark: “Disgusting. Trump is sympathizing more with white supremacists & neo-Nazis than with the vast majority of Americans who condemn their hate.”
Congressman Bill Keating: “POTUS’s words demonstrate a moral compass where north is south, east is west. We must be of one course as a country-to condemn hate & racism.”
Congressman Joe Kennedy III: “We won’t allow @POTUS’s false equivalency of #Charlottesville divide us & will always proudly stand on the side of tolerance and progress.”
Congressman Jim McGovern: “This is sick. @realDonaldTrump is defending neo-Nazis and white supremacists — again. Let that sink in.”
Congressman Seth Moulton: “The people who killed #HeatherHeyer are not “very fine”. Now is the time for patriots to stand up for what is right – for American values.”
Congressman Richard Neal: “Senseless acts of hatred, extremism and intolerance are not welcome here.”
Congresswoman Niki Tsongas: “The President has stood by an evil, indefensible ugliness. He must unequivocally condemn the beliefs and actions of white supremacist groups.”
