MASSACHUSETTS DEMOCRATIC PARTY STATEMENT ON U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT’S BEST STATES RANKINGS
BOSTON – Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford issued the following statement in response U.S. News and World Report’s Best States ranking that names Massachusetts as number one in the country:
“This ranking is a testament to every Massachusetts resident who works to make our state a successful and welcoming place to live. Our doctors, nurses, and technicians have given us one of the nation’s leading healthcare systems. Our students, teachers, and parents have given us a world class public education system.
“However, we can’t just stand still, and this report highlights several areas that we know need improvement. The report shows we need to invest in our infrastructure and in our education system, from pre-K through college. Massachusetts Democrats support the passage of the Fair Share Amendment, which would make critical investments in our roads, bridges, and public transportation, and would also dedicate funding to public education.
“We must also do more to help working families by increasing access to affordable housing, raising the minimum wage, and passing paid family and medical leave, if we are to remain number one and help ensure opportunity for all.”
