Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford released the following statement in response to today’s reports regarding the Massachusetts State Police:

“The reports regarding efforts by Massachusetts State Police leadership to destroy records potentially related to instances of overtime and payroll fraud are deeply troubling. The ongoing state and federal investigations have clearly demonstrated a culture of corruption at the agency, and these latest revelations cast doubt on the ability of senior leadership, both at the State Police and in the corner office on Beacon Hill, to regain public trust. Governor Baker has already been slow to respond to evidence of corruption in the State Police, and has failed to hold senior leadership accountable. Now, it is incumbent on the Governor to take decisive action to ensure full transparency by calling for an independent investigation of the attempted cover-up by the Inspector General. To do otherwise would be yet another abdication of leadership.”
