MASSACHUSETTS DEMOCRATIC PARTY CALLS ON OCPF TO INVESTIGATE APPARENT CAMPAIGN FINANCE VIOLATIONS BY REPUBLICANS BAKER/POLITO
In a statement released today, Democratic Party Executive Director Matt Fenlon said, “Considering the legal questions revealed in the Boston Globe that are now swirling around Republicans Baker and Polito, we are calling on the Office of Campaign and Political Finance (OCPF) to investigate if Republicans Baker and Polito committed campaign finance violations.
“This latest example of the ‘do as I say not as I do” Baker administration shows they are officially the business-as-usual administration.
“Furthermore, Republicans Baker and Polito should heed the words of MassGOP Chair Kirsten Hughes from May 27th, 2014: “Campaign finance laws are in place to uphold the integrity of the political system and an immediate investigation is required to stop from trampling these laws all over again.”
The fact that Republicans Baker and Polito reported zero expenditures for expenses until questioned by the media raises serious concerns.
“If Republicans Baker and Polito truly believe they were doing nothing wrong, why did they adjust their procedures and start paying the MassGOP only in April?,” Fenlon said.
Because Republicans Baker and Polito used MassGOP staff and office space for their political work without reporting any expenditures, Fenlon called on OCPF to determine how much of the $398,598 worth of MassGOP federal expenses should be reimbursed by Republicans Baker and Polito.
