Massachusetts Democrats Mark Equal Pay Day
BOSTON – Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Gus Bickford released the following statement in recognition of Equal Pay Day 2018, a day that represents how far into the year women have to work to earn as much as their male counterparts made the previous year:
“Today, as we recognize the harmful impacts of the gender pay gap, Massachusetts Democrats are committed to ending inequality in the workplace. Over the last two years, our Democratic legislature has made major strides toward pay equity, from one of the strongest equal-pay bills in the nation to the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act that went into effect just last week. But we still have a lot of work to do, from passing paid family and medical leave and raising the minimum wage that disproportionately affects women, to closing the even larger pay gap for women of color. Massachusetts will not stop until our society values a woman’s work equally.”
