Democratic Party Chair “Surprised” by Republican Gov. Baker Comments on East-West Rail

Republican Baker Says “I would rather focus on fixing what we have”

BOSTON—Following Republican Gov. Charlie Baker’s comments this morning on an developing east-west rail link that he “would rather focus fixing what we have,” Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair Tom McGee released the following statement:

“As we recognize the transportation challenges we face as a Commonwealth, it’s important to remember that transportation is the key to economic development. While Republican Gov. Charlie Baker is focusing on fixing the MBTA, we as a Commonwealth must not lose sight of regional equity and investments. That’s why it’s surprising to read his comments this morning about the east-west rail link. Working on plans to link Springfield to Boston would drive economic growth in the Pioneer Valley and I look forward to working with my western Mass colleagues in the legislature to continue developing plans to make their vision for better transportation in western Massachusetts a reality.”
