Today, MassDems Chair Gus Bickford issued the following statement after judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was confirmed by a bipartisan U.S. Senate vote to the Supreme Court.
“Judge Jackson is the daughter of public school teachers, has served as an accomplished lawyer and public defender, a distinguished federal judge, and now, will make history as the first Black woman confirmed to the U.S. Supreme Court. Today’s bipartisan Senate vote not only adds a brilliant legal mind with the utmost character, integrity, and understanding of the law to our nation’s highest court, but will also make the Supreme Court better reflect the diversity of our nation. Today, another promise of President Biden was delivered on, with the aid of our very own Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey.
This lifetime appointment makes clear: elections have consequences and to build on the progress of today, we must continue our fight to elect Democrats every day.”
