Holiday Party Update – New Events and More
Greetings from Kate and Matt
Dear Democrats,
The last runoff of this cycle is tomorrow in Louisiana. Things are winding down. People are enjoying holiday parties and we’re transitioning into governing. We work hard to elect people who share our values. This is a time to share with them what legislation you would like to see passed and to discuss legislative issues of concern to you.
Last week I invited Dispatch readers to the Westborough Holiday Party. Although things are not yet final, as of this writing Senator Elizabeth Warren, Secretary Bill Galvin, Congressman Jim McGovern, State Senator Jamie Eldridge and State Rep. Carolyn Dykema all plan to attend. The party is on Sunday December 16th from 2 to 6 pm at the Red Heat Tavern in Westborough. Just a reminder that this is a holiday open house. Our special guests come and go just like everyone else! See details below.
In the holiday spirit I have included this week an event that is a little different from most of the other events. My friend and former candidate for Lieutenant Governor has a new show. He is going back to live performing where his politics will still take center stage with his newest show: Jimmy Tingle Stand Up: Why Would a Comedian Run for Office? He tells me that, “This show helps explain, in a very funny way, what motivated me to run for LT Governor and how and why I aspire to stay involved.” It should be a fun evening over the holidays.
Democratically yours,
Kate Donaghue
PS Please be sure that you use the DDemDispatch-owner e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication. Check with the organizer or the website if you see something that looks wrong.
Ideas for Committees – Calendar for the Year
As we go into the closing days of the year, it is a good time to plan ahead. Committees who set their meeting schedule for a year in advance allow their members to plan ahead. This is a good time to think about whether monthly meetings or quarterly meetings work best for your group. I am a big proponent of monthly meetings, but each committee is different. Some people like to move their meetings around, alternating between weeknights and weekends. Some committees alternate different days of the week. Planning in advance is not always possible.
From a state party perspective, keep in mind that it is anticipated that the State Convention will be in September. Caucuses will likely be in the spring or early summer.
The year 2019 is the beginning of the reorg cycle for Democratic Committees. Dates to keep in mind include:
August 1, 2019: Deadline for notification of number of members to be elected.
August 6, 2019: Date by which nomination papers foe town and wards will be available.
November 8, 2019: Date by which nomination papers must be filed with local clerks.
