Women’s March, Convention Update, Many New Events

Greetings from Kate and Matt
Dear Democrats,

“Would you like to update your voter registration? Become a registered Democrat?” Asking that question can change lives.

Many are going to one of the Women’s march events. Two years ago I went to the Boston event armed with voter registration forms with the goal of trying to get people to register as Democrats. I have learned that my effort has had a significant impact on people’s lives.

I met a very young woman who spent the next year volunteering with me in what she calls a transformative year. We continue to volunteer together on a regular basis. She tells me that the job she has now she got because of the skills and experience she was acquiring. She volunteered from a point of altruism and it has made a difference in her life path.

This past week a friend spoke to our local DTC about climate change and legislative action. She mentioned that on the train from the woman’s march that I had registered her and her friend as Democrats, encouraged them to get involved and it had changed their lives. Now she spends much time on advocacy and campaigning. Her friend later reached out to me for advice on running for local office and is now on her local School Committee.

My work was only part of the series of events that have moved people to activism. I share these stories to urge people to reach out and connect with people to move them towards regular ongoing activism.

Reaching out to people at rallies and in daily life is a way of letting people know about opportunities for engagement. Always be trying to get people moving towards more involvement. Moving someone to registering to vote, to becoming a Democrat, to talking about politics with friends, to active engagement. We all can make a difference in the lives of people around us!

Democratically yours,

Kate Donaghue

PS Please be sure that you use the DDemDispatch-owner e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication.
