November 22, 2019/Dispatch

Upcoming Holiday Parties! Events & More.

Dear Democrats,

The Democratic Presidential Debate earlier this week showed once again that Democrats are focused on issues affecting Americans. Our candidates are ready to get to work on equal rights for all; access to high-quality, comprehensive, and affordable healthcare; protecting a woman’s right to choose; a world-class public education system; an economy that works for everyone; environmental and climate justice; and affordable, and reliable public transportation. The next debate will be on December 19th — if your town or ward committee will be hosting a watch party, let us know by emailing events@massdems.org and we’ll list it in the Dispatch!

As December approaches, keep in mind that some town and ward committees do not meet. Instead, they host holiday parties to wrap up the end of the year. Be sure to confirm whether your local committee is meeting or not and let us know if we should change an event or add one so the Dispatch is up to date!

We hope you enjoy Thanksgiving next week!

Sincerely,

Patrick Coyne
Communications Manager, Massachusetts Democratic Party

P.S. Since next week is a holiday week, please send us your events to events@massdems.org by 5:00 pm on Tuesday, November 26th.

Ideas for Committees: Host a Holiday Party!

Many committees are holding holiday parties to bring together members, raise funds for their work, celebrate the efforts of activists, hear from elected officials, and strategize for 2020. If your committee isn’t already planning an end-of-year holiday party, considering holding one! A seasonal event like this is also a great opportunity to partner with neighboring committees to build connections and draw a larger crowd! If your committee is holding an event, be sure to send it into events@massdems.org so we can promote it in the Dispatch!

Holiday Party Announcement from Kate Donaghue – Save the Date

The Westborough Democratic Town Committee Holiday Party will be held on December 8th at the Red Heat in Westborough. It is always a fun gathering of activists, elected officials, candidates, and more! We have moved the event to earlier in the day this year. I usually talk about it in the Dispatch, and it is still one of the perks of having been editor in chief of Donaghue’s Democratic Dispatch for almost twenty years! Details are in the calendar section below. Watch next week’s Dispatch for updated information.

From Kate Donaghue, Sad News – Susan Fargo, Bill Pasquina and Henry Twiggs

We have lost some good people recently. It is with sadness that I share the following information.

Bill Pasquina, the husband of my very dear friend and DSC colleague Kathy Pasquina, passed away on November 9. Bill was an attorney who was proud of his working fighting for injured workers. His memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30, at 1 p.m., at the First Religious Society Unitarian Universalist Church, 26 Pleasant Street, Newburyport. You can read more here

Former State Senator Susan Fargo passed away on November 15th. Susan was elected to eight consecutive terms in the Massachusetts State Senate serving the 3rd Middlesex district (the 5th Middlesex district prior to 2003) from 1997-2012. She proudly wore out three pairs of shoes during her first campaign walking the nine towns in her district, introducing herself to her constituents in order to win as a Democrat in a traditionally Republican district. A celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23rd at 3 pm at the First Parish Church, 4 Bedford Road, Lincoln. You can read more here.

Henry Twiggs, Democratic State Committee Member, passed away on November 21. Henry was a Springfield City Councilor and was active in Democratic Party politics, serving on the Massachusetts Democratic State Committee and was a former chairman of the Springfield City Democratic Committee. I knew Henry for many years, joining him at National and State Conventions. I’ve learned more about him reading the tributes that are appearing throughout the Springfield area. You can read more here.
