Summer! Picnics, Fundraisers and More! Many New Events

Greetings from Kate and Matt
Dear Democrats,

The Massachusetts Democratic State Convention is on September 14 in Springfield. Becoming a delegate is a great way to get engaged, meet elected officials and activists from across the state.

If you can’t make your caucus, you can still be a delegate if you inform your chair of your interest beforehand and are elected, or you may apply to attend as an add-on delegate: http://bit.ly/2019AddonApplication

MassDems strives to ensure that our delegation is a diverse and representative body. To meet this goal, we have the opportunity for people who are interested to apply to be Add-on delegates in the categories of Disabled, LGBTQ+, Minority, and Youth. Add-ons will be selected by the Democratic State Committee at the August 10th State Committee meeting.

It’s going to be a great weekend! A fun way to enjoy the weekend is to take part in a pride event. There are plenty of pride parades around the Commonwealth. If you would like to find out more about the pride parades this year, please contact the chairs of the Bay State Stonewall Democrats, Jeremy Comeau or Claire Naughton, at bssd@baystatestonewallsdems.org

Democratically yours,

Kate Donaghue

PS Please be sure that you use the events@massdems.org e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication. Check with the organizer or the website if you see something that looks wrong.

Update: Submitting Events to Dispatch
The Massachusetts Democratic Party will be partnering with me on issuing the Democratic Dispatch. It is our hope that the first issue that is sent out by them will be the June 28th issue. Towards that end please keep the following in mind:
– Please send information to events@massdems.org. This is the best way to get your events listed.
– If you have a mailing list that you use for events, please include events@massdems.org on your mailing list. As time permit we will look for appropriate events to include.
– I will continue to look at my facebook invitations and my personal email for events to include, but I anticipate having less time to do this in the future.
– Please do not use Matt’s personal email address for events (shalias2@mac.com).
Watch for more information in the future.

Ideas for Committees – Kate’s Kanvass Hints
Want to have a meeting and train people on canvassing?
My document is a comprehensive guide to canvassing.
You can use it as the curriculum for a meeting or workshop!
As my schedule permits I will come to your local DTC/DWC meeting and present on best practices.

You Have to Laugh Occasionally – Edited by Matt Shear
A wonderful response:
Mike Huckabee – Must have been an “awkward” moment for Angela Merkel to sit in ceremony as the Allies commemorated D-Day that broke the back of Nazi Germany.
Tea Pain – It must have been “awkward” for Merkel to be in the same room with the feller that calls Nazis, “Very Fine People.”

Submitting Events
Please send us your Democratic events. We want to publicize what you are doing. We usually go to press on Friday PM, so make sure you send your info no later than Thursday evening to get into that week’s issue.
1) Use subject line “For the Dispatch”
2) Put your event information in text format in the body of the email. Please include start time, end time (if any), location (with street address for GPS), event description (it’s good to mention food/drink/donations/RSVP), and a link to more info.
3) Send to events@massdems.org

Note that unlike some other Yahoo groups, replies and other comments sent to us at ddemdispatch-owner@yahoogroups.com come only to us and are not published.

The Democratic Dispatch is a more or less weekly e-mail newsletter for Democratic events across the state. Your editors are Kate Donaghue and Matt Shear. Pace Willisson handles the tech stuff. We edit this as volunteers as our way of promoting the Democratic Party, Democratic candidates and the Democratic Platform. The positions represented in the regular “Greetings from Kate” or “Greetings from Matt” reflect our personal positions, and not those of the Democratic Party.

Thanks! Kate Donaghue (and Matt Shear)
