Summer Fun, Campaigns and More – 07/20/2018

Greetings from Kate and Matt

Dear Democrats,

Last week I spoke about the fact that elections have consequences. Last week I was talking about the nomination to the Supreme Court.

This week I’ll share information from the Mass Dems on Donald trump and his actions…..

A double negative. That’s what Donald Trump is blaming for his egregious steps to discredit our intelligence community and align himself with a hostile foreign nation at the expense of our nation’s democracy and security. We don’t buy it. Yesterday, he doubled down saying that Russia is not a threat to our nation or democracy. He’s buying every one of Putin’s lies and spreading dangerous rhetoric that is not only putting our democracy and security in jeopardy but greatly impacting our global standing and credibility.

Last week I suggested that people go out and do something. So I have been out knocking on doors most days since I wrote that. I set my personal record for this cycle with 104 doors the other day!

This week I’m here and it’s a gorgeous day and I’m ready to go and talk with more voters!

If you want to get involved in a campaign and need more information check out the websites that are at the end of the newsletter. Find an event that encourages people to vote and go talk to some voters!

Democratically yours,

Kate Donaghue

PS Please be sure that you use the DDemDispatch-owner e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication. Check with the organizer or the webiste if you see something that looks wrong.

Ideas for Committees – Invite a Democratic Legislator to Speak

Inviting your Democratic State Rep or your Democratic State Senator to a DTC meeting has many benefits. If your legislator has a Republican opponent please try to arrange an opportunity for him or her to speak. Some think that you are preaching to the choir, but as the say, that’s how you get them to sing. A DTC meeting with a legislator:

– is an opportunity for a press release highlighting the person’s issues.

– provides the general public a chance to hear from the candidate.

– let’s the members hear about how to help.

– allows for the legislator to hear from active Democrats.

– helps the legislator have strong connections with constituents.

– sends a message that the legislator is meeting with constituents.

You Have to Laugh Occasionally – Edited by Matt Shear

Trump “Clarification” Edition:

Bill Kristol – “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Clarification by Donald J. Trump: Where he said “will” he meant “won’t.”

Rocky Mountain Mike – Can we just say that America “misspoke” when we voted in 2016?

Last weekend’s messages and highlights from our fearless Democratic leaders:

Senator Elizabeth Warren’s video about how important it is to challenge Trump’s border policies: “…we will not permit America to break up families. And that’s how I see this. Donald Trump is not King. The power is with the people.”

https://bit.ly/2tZMyCh

Video of Senator Markey’s remarks at Saturday’s march in Boston: “Donald Trump wants to make America hate again and we are standing up and saying that he will not take our country.

Coverage of Congressman Joe Kennedy’s remarks on Saturday: “We stand up and we say, not on our watch. Not while we have something to say about it…they will stand up and fight for our humanity and the humanity of our neighborhood.”

https://bit.ly/2zi22qa

Congresswoman Katherine Clark’s posts and photos from the Framingham rally: @From MA5 to our nation’s capital and across the country, Americans are taking to the streets to stand in solidarity with immigrant families until they are reunited.”

https://bit.ly/2tYQdAd

Congressman Jim McGovern’s video from the Worcester march: “This is about tearing up families and that goes against our values. That betrays who we are and we need to stand up to that.”

https://bit.ly/2ueIQ78

Attorney General Healey’s video with Alyssa Milano on why she’s suing to stop family separation: “President Trump’s family separation policy isn’t just illegal – it’s immoral. Families remain apart. We can’t turn our back on them.”

https://bit.ly/2ze5r9B

Coverage of Senators Warren and Markey calling on the Trump administration to release the full list of separated families to ensure we are taking steps to reunite all families.
