Early Voting Rallies – 10/26/2018

Greetings from Kate and Matt

Dear Democrats,

It’s EARLY VOTING time. Invite a friend to an early vote rally. Especially reach out to someone who might not otherwise vote and help them make a voting plan. Look up the early voting for them in their community. Go with them if it makes it more social and more likely that the person will vote.

LINK TO EARLY VOTING SCHEDULE: https://bit.ly/2NG3e8C

This year, Massachusetts has offered early voting to all eligible voters! That’s right, we don’t need an excuse to vote before Election Day–we get to vote early at a time that works for our schedule. Early voting ends on Friday, November 2nd.

Some of you may have been planning on running canvasses or canvassing on Saturday. Remember that the voters are very impressed by people who go out in bad weather to ask for a vote. But there is a fine line between the voters thinking you are dedicated and the voters thinking you are nuts. And I have crossed that line way too often!

So if you absolutely can’t get out, call some friends or relatives. See below for some thoughts and discussion.

Democratically yours,

Kate Donaghue

PS Please be sure that you use the DDemDispatch-owner e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication. Check with the organizer or the website if you see something that looks wrong.

Friend to Friend GOTV

Talking to people you know and reminding them to vote is a very effective way to get people to vote. Think about three to five people who you can contact who might not vote without a reminder. Niece or nephew? Aunt or Uncle? Grandchildren? Maybe someone from your book club?

Friend to friend voter contact works in conjunction with traditional canvasses and phone banks. It’s effectiveness comes from three aspects:

– Better contact information. You have your Mom’s correct phone number!

– Better contact rates. Mom will most likely take your call.

– More influential. Let’s hope that you have more influence with your Mom than a telemarketer!

What to say? You’re talking to people you know! Talk in a way that you usually talk. The general idea is, “Can we count on you to vote the Democratic ticket?” If the answer is yes, then talk to the person about making a plan. Look up the early voting for them in their community. Go with them if it makes it more social and more likely that the person will vote.

If you have a chance, put the information into VoteBuuilder. Send it to your organizer if you are working with someone. I’ll help connect you if needed. I am KateDonaghue@aol.com or 508-404-8531.
