DISPATCH: A Note from Kate, Special Elections, & More

Dear Democrats,

Times are tough. While some of us are staying safe at home, others are essential workers and health care professionals fighting the virus on the front lines. Everyone is experiencing this crisis differently, so take time today check in on your loved ones and thank the people that risk their lives to keep us moving forward.

I tell people that during these times, I’m helping by staying home, making donations, and working to elect Democrats. This pandemic has shown us just how important it is to have sensitive and competent leaders in office.

That’s why we need to elect four great Democrats to the Massachusetts legislature this spring. Engaging our communities in political action is not just about asking for votes–it’s about showing compassion, providing comfort, and bringing people together. It’s about making sure that we have people in office that care about our communities during crises like this one.

Can we count on you to join us for at least one phone bank before the May 19 Election Day? Every single week, we’re adding new phone banks to talk to voters about the elections on May 19 and June 2.

I’ve been working alongside Special Elections Coordinator, Erin Buechele, and phoning with activists from across the state in these four special elections that are happening right now and getting to know other mobilized democrats while Zoom conferencing. This is a great way to have social time with like-minded people while we are quarantining.

We’ve got incredible candidates fighting back against Trump loyalists in Taunton and Easton, the Cape, the South Shore, western Mass, and Middlesex County, but we need your help over the next 25 days to make sure we flip three seats bright blue, and protect the Democratic hold in the fourth.

Democratically yours,

Kate Donaghue

Ideas for Committees

Encourage your committee to sign up for a phone bank for a Democrat running in a district near you! There are plenty of phone banks happening over the next week, if you’re having a virtual meeting soon, ask your committee members to sign up for at least one shift before the May 19 election. If you’re not having a meeting, feel free to send out an email, but don’t be afraid to make a few follow up calls to see if people have signed up.  If you have any questions about the candidates running or phone banking, reach out to Special Elections Coordinator Erin Buechele at erin@massdems.org.
