December Presidential Debate! Events & More.

Dear Democrats,

Next Thursday is the December Democratic Presidential Debate! The debate will be co-hosted by PBS NewsHour and Politico, and it will be held at the Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. You can watch the debate on all local PBS stations, CNN, CNN International, and CNN En Español. It will also be streaming on PBS.com, Politico.com, and CNN.com and will air on your local PBS radio station.

Our Democratic Presidential nominee is selected at the Democratic National Convention on July 13-16, 2020 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by a body of Democrats from every state, called delegates. Leading up to the Convention,  MassDems is committed to ensuring an inclusive, welcoming and representative delegation. To do that, we need to make sure that anyone who wants to be a delegate has the chance to run and be elected. To that end, we have arranged a series of local trainings that will clearly and concisely run through the nuts and bolts of our process. During this training, attendees will learn about the process to become a delegate to the Democratic National Convention and hear from past delegates about their experiences.

This Saturday, December 14th there will be two trainings: One in Springfield and one in Framingham. Don’t worry if you can’t make either of these trainings, there will be 16 more throughout the state in January. If you are interested in attending either one of these Saturday trainings or any trainings in January, we have provided a full list of trainings on our website, which you can view here. For more information on how to become a delegate, view the “How to Run for Delegate to the 2020 Democratic National Convention” handout.

Message from Kate: Give the Gift of the Dispatch this Holiday Season

For many years YahooGroups were a way to connect people. The email may seem to be a thing of the past for some, but it is still one of the most important ways of communicating. This Dispatch has been the gateway to organizing for so many groups. And yahoogroups were a way for people to connect, politically, and more.

I recall being at a Democratic Campaign Institute in 2002. Fred Koed was presenting and said something like, “The most important thing I am going to tell you today is to subscribe to Kate’s Dispatch.” A man by the name of Arthur Powell approached me and said, “What do you need to do to start a newsletter?” “Anyone can do it!” he tells me I told him. And that started the first spinoff of the Democratic Dispatch.

As yahoogroups has been phasing out, one of my first priorities, as I started partnering with MassDems, was to get off yahoogroups. We are now using another service and so we there is a different way to subscribe.

So today, forward the Dispatch to someone you know who might be interested. It’s THE PERFECT GIFT for that person who has everything. And it’s FREE! Let someone know that you are thinking of them, but don’t want to increase your or their carbon footprint.

You can subscribe by clicking the subscribe button at the top of this email or by using this link: http://bit.ly/DDemDispatch

Sincerely,

Kate Donaghue
Editor Emeritus

Ideas for Committees

As we approach the end of the year and look towards 2020, be sure to send in your meeting schedules for the new year, once they’re finalized. We’re hoping to streamline the process next year, so that the Dispatch is more helpful to all of you! When sending in your meetings, be sure to list them as dates (as opposed to something like “the second Tuesday of each month”) so we can correctly account for holidays. Please also include an email that we can reach out to in case we need to confirm that the meeting is still happening!
