ICYMI: A Message from Kate
Dear Dispatch Readers,
At last Saturday’s DSC meeting, I announced that I am not running for re-election to the Democratic National Committee. I have very much enjoyed working with my DNC colleagues: DSC officers Gus Bickford and Deb Kozikowski, members Sue Thomson, David O’Brien and Mel Poindexter, along with at-large members Jim Roosevelt, Deb Goldberg and Elaine Kamarck, and past colleagues, John Walsh and Ray Jordan. It was through the DNC that I connected with the High School Democrats of America. I plan to continue my work with them. My involvement with young people has been very rewarding. I am grateful for the opportunity to work with them. I will continue to serve the Democratic Party as a DSC member and a campaign volunteer. I look forward to representing Massachusetts at the national convention in Milwaukee. My term will end at the close of the 2020 convention.
It has been an honor and privilege to serve on the DNC. I am deeply grateful to the DSC and Democrats across Massachusetts for the opportunity to serve on the Democratic National Committee.
Democratically yours,
Kate Donaghue
Ideas for Committees – Host a Candidate Forum!
Local races are happening now across the state, including many fast-approaching preliminary elections. Hosting a candidate forum is a great way to hear from the candidates running and to introduce new voters to your committee. You can ask attendees to submit questions ahead of time, let folks ask questions at the event, or come up with a combination of both. Be sure to advertise the forum on social media and ask people to bring their friends and families! And of course, email events@massdems.org to let us know about any forums (or other events) that you’re hosting so we can promote them here in the dispatch!
Update: Submitting Events to the Dispatch
The Massachusetts Democratic Party will be partnering with me on issuing the Democratic Dispatch. It is our hope that the first issue that is sent out by them will be the June 28th issue. Towards that end please keep the following in mind:
– Please send information to events@massdems.org. This is the best way to get your events listed.
– If you have a mailing list that you use for events, please include events@massdems.org on your mailing list. As time permit we will look for appropriate events to include.
– I will continue to look at my facebook invitations and my personal email for events to include, but I anticipate having less time to do this in the future.
– Please do not use Matt’s personal email address for events (shalias2@mac.com).
NOTE: If you want your event listed on the MassDems calendar as well, you pretty much need to include an end time for your event. IF you want an event in the Dispatch, but not the MassDems, please say so. Thanks for your patience with this transition.

11/15/19 Last day and hour (5PM) for Registrars of Voters to complete certification of signatures on nomination papers for ward, town and state committees.
11/19/19 Last day and hour (5PM) to file ward, town and state committee nomination papers with the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
OVERVIEW AND NOTES
Every four years Democratic Town and Ward Committees need to reorganize.
Check the calendar above and think about either scheduling meetings that allow you to take the actions listed above or if your current meeting schedule allows you to accomplish what needs to be done.
In brief the process starts with each committee choosing the potential number of members to be elected on the ballot. Generally I encourage committees to “Fill Every Seat. Legally, each committee can set the number between 3 and 35. I mention this now to encourage people to think about this issue now so that you can have a vote in time to get the information to the SOC on or before 08/01.
Between 8/6 and 11/9 nomination papers need to be circulated and signed. It’s prudent to have a meeting during this time as well as a plan to connect with people who might not attend a meeting.
Finally, it’s good to schedule time to get the papers into the SOC.
