Caucuses Kickoff! Spring Events and More
Greetings from Kate and Matt
Dear Democrats,
Saturday is the first day of the Massachusetts Democratic Caucus Season where we will elect our representatives to the 2019 State Convention! Our focus for this convention is not only about the upcoming 2019 and 2020 elections, but also what is happening in our streets, in our towns and in our hearts. Senator Ed Markey, one of our keynote speakers this year, will be discussing his well-known bill—the Green New Deal. The Green New Deal is an issue that affects the lives of everyone on this planet.
Find your caucus here:
https://massdems.org/2019-convention-caucus-information/
Invite someone who is interested in getting involved to attend their local caucus. Help someone find the information. Go with them. There are many people who want to get involved but don’t know how.
Check out the list of events below. Find something. Act locally.
Democratically yours,
Kate Donaghue
PS Please be sure that you use the DDemDispatch-owner e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication. Check with the organizer or the website if you see something that looks wrong.
Ideas for Committees – Caucus Time – A few reminders
People who are 16 as of May 11, 2019 and are registered or pre-registered Democrats are eligible to take part and and run for delegate. People can register on site. Unsuccessful candidates for delegate can run for alternate. The DSC chooses add-on delegates from the pool of applicants. This is not done by the local DTC or Ward Committee. Someone who is an elected alternate can also run for delegate. When in doubt check with the Mass. Democratic Party.

Ideas for Committees – Preview of Reorganization Timeline – Advice
08/01/19 Last day for city and ward committees to notify the Secretary of Commonwealth of the number of members to be elected to each ward and town committee.
08/06/19 Nomination papers available at the Election Division in the Office of the Secretary of the Common wealth and some city and town clerks’ offices for ward, town and state committee.
11/08/19 Last day and hour (5PM) to submit ward, town or state committee nomination papers to Registars of Voters for certification of signatures.
11/15/19 Last day and hour (5PM) for Registrars of Voters to complete certification of signatures on nomination papers for ward, town and state committees.
11/19/19 Last day and hour (5PM) to file ward, town and state committee nomination papers with the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
OVERVIEW AND NOTES
Every four years Democratic Town and Ward Committees need to reorganize.
Check the calendar above and think about either scheduling meetings that allow you to take the actions listed above or if your current meeting schedule allows you to accomplish what needs to be done.
In brief the process starts with each committee choosing the potential number of members to be elected on the ballot. Generally I encourage committees to “Fill Every Seat. Legally, each committee can set the number between 3 and 35. I mention this now to encourage people to think about this issue now so that you can have a vote in time to get the information to the SOC on or before 08/01.
Between 8/6 and 11/9 nomination papers need to be circulated and signed. It’s prudent to have a meeting during this time as well as a plan to connect with people who might not attend a meeting.
Finally, it’s good to schedule time to get the papers into the SOC.
Submitting Events
Please send us your Democratic events. We want to publicize what you are doing. We usually go to press on Friday PM, so make sure you send your info no later than Thursday evening to get into that week’s issue.
1) Use subject line “For the Dispatch”
2) Put your event information in text format in the body of the email. Please include start time, end time (if any), location (with street address for GPS), event description (it’s good to mention food/drink/donations/RSVP), and a link to more info.
3) Send to DDemDispatch-owner@yahoogroups.com
Note that unlike some other Yahoo groups, replies and other comments sent to us at ddemdispatch-owner@yahoogroups.com come only to us and are not published.
The Democratic Dispatch is a more or less weekly e-mail newsletter for Democratic events across the state. Your editors are Kate Donaghue and Matt Shear. Pace Willisson handles the tech stuff. We edit this as volunteers as our way of promoting the Democratic Party, Democratic candidates and the Democratic Platform. The positions represented in the regular “Greetings from Kate” or “Greetings from Matt” reflect our personal positions, and not those of the Democratic Party.
Thanks! Kate Donaghue (and Matt Shear)
