Canvassing Weekend! Election Season & More.
Greetings from Patrick (& Kate)
Dear Democrats,
Happy Early Birthday (10/19) to the wonderful Kate Donaghue– she has been an inspiration to us all and we cannot thank her enough for all she does for this Dispatch and for the Democratic Party! See her special message below.
It’s hard to believe that the November 5th Municipal elections are only 18 days away! Although they’re nonpartisan races, we know that these elections are going to have massive implications for our communities. So be sure to take advantage of a free weekend or early evening to canvass or phonebank for a Democrat that you support! The MassDems have created a handout (http://bit.ly/2qirszM) of places to get involved around the state and the country. If there are other races you’re working on or want to get involved with these campaigns this fall, email our MassDems Political Director, Nigel Simon, at nigel@massdems.org
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Patrick Coyne
Communications Manager, Massachusetts Democratic Party
P.S. If you know of an event that’s not listed, reach out to us at events@massdems.org and we’ll include it in the next edition of the dispatch! If you have events that you would like to include in our weekly Dispatch, please email us at events@massdems.org by Thursday at 5:00 pm so we can include in our Friday email.
An Invitation From Kate – My Birthday Canvass
Dear Democrats,
I’m making a special guest appearance to shamelessly exploit my birthday and invite people to volunteer in my honor! As Editor Emiritus of the Democratic Dispatch one of the perks is that I still get to promote my activities and causes. Check out my facebook post and join me for canvassing for a candidate or for the Environmental Voter Project. Here’s the link: https://www.facebook.com/events/375360446697736/ or https://www.facebook.com/KateDonaghue !
And it wouldn’t be my birthday without Doors and Drinks. Join me on Friday 10/25 to help Samantha Perlman.
After nineteen years of working on the Dispatch I’m thrilled that it continues in partnership with the Democratic Party. Five years ago, the Boston Globe profiled my door knocking efforts just in time for my birthday! As I was writing the Dispatch my social media started lighting up as people started reading the article! Here’s the link:

Democratically yours,
Kate “Ironwoman” Donaghue

Ideas for Committees – Preview of Reorganization Timeline – Advice

11/08/19 Last day and hour (5PM) to submit ward, town or state committee nomination papers to Registars of Voters for certification of signatures.
11/15/19 Last day and hour (5PM) for Registrars of Voters to complete certification of signatures on nomination papers for ward, town and state committees.
11/19/19 Last day and hour (5PM) to file ward, town and state committee nomination papers with the Secretary of the Commonwealth.
OVERVIEW AND NOTES
Every four years Democratic Town and Ward Committees need to reorganize.
Check the calendar above and think about either scheduling meetings that allow you to take the actions listed above or if your current meeting schedule allows you to accomplish what needs to be done.
In brief the process starts with each committee choosing the potential number of members to be elected on the ballot. Generally I encourage committees to “Fill Every Seat. Legally, each committee can set the number between 3 and 35. I mention this now to encourage people to think about this issue now so that you can have a vote in time to get the information to the SOC on or before 08/01.
Between 8/6 and 11/9 nomination papers need to be circulated and signed. It’s prudent to have a meeting during this time as well as a plan to connect with people who might not attend a meeting.
Finally, it’s good to schedule time to get the papers into the SOC.
