Breakfasts and Meetings; Many New Events

Greetings from Kate and Matt
Dear Democrats,

Run for local office. Support other Democrats who are running for local office!

With municipal elections happening in both cities and towns across the Commonwealth, I am making my push for Democrats to be involved. I have several reasons for this.

1) Most importantly, good government. You want people who share your values in local office.
2) Building the farm team; building the bench. Serving on a Board of Selectman or School Committee is great preparation for legislative service.
3) Keeping the band together. We build organizations for elections in even numbered years. Then people go in different directions when there is not the urgency of a campaign. A local effort allows people to build skills and get experience in areas of campaigns typically done by paid staff in national and statewide campaigns.
4) Local leaders. A Democrat elected to local office can influence people in partisan elections. Every elected official has a following. An elected official can influence votes in other elections.

Serving on an appointed municipal board is a great way to prepare for running for local office.

Democratically yours,

Kate Donaghue

PS Please be sure that you use the DDemDispatch-owner e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication. Check with the organizer or the website if you see something that looks wrong.

Information for Committees – Invite Democrats Running for Local Office
Towns across the Commonwealth are having municipal elections in late winter and early spring. Consider inviting candidates to address your meeting. Such a meeting can be as formal or as informal as fits your Committee style. When setting something like this up, be respectful of candidates’ time and ask them to be respectful of your time. Often people running for municipal office don’t have a lot of experience with speaking. Give candidates time limits and use a timer. If you have several candidates coming to speak over the course of a meeting, try to give guests a specific time. Breaks between candidates give people a chance to interact.

From the Chairman
Gus Bickford writes….
January 20th marked the halfway mark of the Trump presidency. For that, Americans have over 800,000 federal workers furloughed, two missed paychecks and one failed Presidency to show for it. Our delegation in DC is fighting every day for us, state legislators are navigating solutions to support federal workers in Massachusetts and we need to increase our voice on social media to end the #TrumpShutdown. Looking for facts and figures to share? The DNC prepared a comprehensive document for you here.
