100 Days to General Election – 07/27/2018
Greetings from Kate and Matt
Dear Democrats,
This weekend marks 100 days until the midterm election!
Every week when Matt and I do the Dispatch, I look back at what I was thinking the previous week. And every week something new has happened. So I will repeat the mantra that elections matter. Elections have consequences.
Figure out what you can do to make a difference and do it. Get involved in a primary. Or get involved in the Elizabeth Warren coordinated campaign. Every person who gets involved now helps build capacity for the general election.
I’ll close by congratulating my good friend Karen Spilka on becoming Senate President. I’ve been a supporter of Senator Spilka since she first ran for State Rep. She has always been a doer. She got elected by having a solid record of accomplishment in local politics and more than knocking on door after door. Once she was elected she used her time to help others get elected. I recall a phone bank for a special election shortly after she was elected. Karen showed up and stayed the whole time getting more phone calls done than most of the volunteers. She said she was glad to have the opportunity to help others because of limits on her time during her own reelection. Senator Spilka and her husband have opened their home countless times for gatherings for local Democrats and especially to help the organization EMERGE. I recall arriving to our MetroWest coordinating campaign office and Karen was scrubbing and cleaning as we prepared to occupy the space. Senator Spilka has worked! hard as a legislator, an advocate and a campaigner. Congratulations!
Democratically yours,
Kate Donaghue
PS Please be sure that you use the DDemDispatch-owner e-mail address when sending in events. And please keep in mind that Matt and I work hard to try to get the most up to date information, but sometimes things change or there is a miscommunication. Check with the organizer or the webiste if you see something that looks wrong.

Ideas for Committees – Election Planning Meeting
As we get closer to the general election, now is a good time to start planning Democratic activities to gear up for the general election. Having a meeting and publicizing that it is happening is a good way to identify area people who might not be interested in engaging in routine Democratic Committee meetings but who would be ready to engage in campaigns. I repeat the advice I have shared in the past, “Do something and tell people about it.” H/T John Walsh.

You Have to Laugh Occasionally – Edited by Matt Shear
George Takei – Overheard: “I’m starting to think that someone who paid $250K to have sex twice may not be the best at making deals.”
OhNoSheTwitnt – The Trump administration will pledge up to $12 billion in emergency aid to farmers hurt by the president’s trade war which, if you’re counting, means he has had sex with approximately 92,300 farmers.
Last weekend’s messages and highlights from our fearless Democratic leaders:
Senator Elizabeth Warren’s video about how important it is to challenge Trump’s border policies: “…we will not permit America to break up families. And that’s how I see this. Donald Trump is not King. The power is with the people.”
Video of Senator Markey’s remarks at Saturday’s march in Boston: “Donald Trump wants to make America hate again and we are standing up and saying that he will not take our country.
Coverage of Congressman Joe Kennedy’s remarks on Saturday: “We stand up and we say, not on our watch. Not while we have something to say about it…they will stand up and fight for our humanity and the humanity of our neighborhood.”
Congresswoman Katherine Clark’s posts and photos from the Framingham rally: @From MA5 to our nation’s capital and across the country, Americans are taking to the streets to stand in solidarity with immigrant families until they are reunited.”
Congressman Jim McGovern’s video from the Worcester march: “This is about tearing up families and that goes against our values. That betrays who we are and we need to stand up to that.”
Attorney General Healey’s video with Alyssa Milano on why she’s suing to stop family separation: “President Trump’s family separation policy isn’t just illegal – it’s immoral. Families remain apart. We can’t turn our back on them.”
Coverage of Senators Warren and Markey calling on the Trump administration to release the full list of separated families to ensure we are taking steps to reunite all families.
