Johnston Denounces Romney-Healey Administration's Shameful Attacks on Hardworking Immigrant Students

November 1 2005

“Today Gov. Mitt Romney and Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey made it crystal clear just how out of touch this administration is with the residents of Massachusetts ,” Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman Phil Johnston said.

“For Lt. Gov. Healey to suggest, as she did today, that these students should just go to private school shows yet again how little she understands the obstacles working class citizens of this state face.

Massachusetts needs leaders who will work for all of its students, seniors, and citizens. This administration has proven again it is completely out of sync with the needs of our residents.

Hardworking young people who have graduated from Massachusetts high schools deserve the opportunity to better themselves through an affordable higher education, regardless of who their parents are.

Immigrants play a major role in the success of this Commonwealth and we must continue to encourage them by providing them with a chance to fulfill their dreams."
