I feel strongly that a person who opposes a woman's right to choose should not chair the Democratic Party.
The fact that we lost the 2004 presidential race by a narrow margin should not result in the abandonment of our Party's core principles. The notion that every woman across the nation should be able to control her own body is a basic principle that must be supported by the leadership of the Party. The way to regain control of the White House is to refocus our resources on strengthening our Party's field organization at the state and local levels.
President Bush and his allies will be working overtime during the coming months and years to secure the appointment of Supreme Court justices who will be anxious to repeal Roe v. Wade. It would be extremely foolish if the DNC were to be led by a Chair who agrees with the Bush administration's position on abortion. Instead, we should elect a pro-choice Chair who can articulate the values of our Party and who will support the strengthening of the Party's organization throughout the country.
