“Just a few weeks after Romney claimed that his appointment of a U.S. Senator to replace Senator John F. Kerry upon Kerry’s ascension to the U.S. Presidency was the only way to protect the rights of minorities and women, Romney has yet again flip-flopped.
“I’m glad to see that Mitt Romney finally sees the writing on the wall: John Kerry will be our next President. Once again, however, Romney has chosen political expediency over principled public policy,” said Massachusetts Democratic Chairman Philip Johnston.
“This is an amendment that a first year law student would recognize as unconstitutional, let alone Chief Counsel to the Governor, a former judge,” Johnston added. The only ‘compromise’ in Romney’s proposal is a compromise of the electoral process and the voting rights of all citizens of the Commonwealth, including women and minority voters. It’s time for the Governor to put an end to a corner office that governs by press release and more resembles a scene from the ‘Emperor’s New Clothes’ than the seat of the executive branch of the Commonwealth.” |
