The Massachusetts Democratic Party today called on Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey to withdraw a political television advertisement that violates state ethics regulations by misusing the Massachusetts state seal.

The advertisement in question includes a shot of Lieutenant Governor Kerry Healey standing behind a podium which carries the state seal and coat of arms. According to the Massachusetts Ethics Commission, public employees are prohibited from using the state seal or coat of arms for campaign purposes.

“Kerry Healey's campaign team is showing blatant disregard for state regulation,” said state party Communications Director Cyndi Roy. “It is an incredibly careless move for her and the campaign to make in their first attempt to expose voters to Kerry Healey.”

An attorney for the Massachusetts Democratic Party issued a letter to Healey's campaign manager Wednesday, requesting that the ad be withdrawn. Similar letters were sent to the television stations from which the Healey campaign purchased air time notifying them of the infraction and asking them to take the ads down.

State party officials will file a complaint with the state Ethics Commission later today.
