“The Romney-Healey administration has been a disaster for the citizens of Massachusetts from every perspective. Massachusetts is the only state in the union to have lost population for two years in a row; recent college graduates are fleeing the state at an alarming rate; we're 49 th in terms of support for public higher education; our state is dead last in creating new jobs; and we have the highest cost of housing in the land.

Mitt Romney and Kerry Healey have increased taxes by more than a billion dollars and cost shifted hundreds of millions more from the state to local communities, resulting in skyrocketing property taxes.

With a record like this, Kerry Healey should be joining Mitt Romney on his exodus from the state rather than announcing her candidacy for governor today. As his chief lieutenant for the past four years, Kerry Healey must assume her share of the blame for this administration.

The responsibility of the Democratic Party during the coming months will be to make the case to the voters of Massachusetts that a progressive Democratic governor, working with a progressive Democratic legislature, can restore superior status to our state in the areas of healthcare, education, job creation, housing, and transportation.

The notion that we need a Republican governor to act as a check on a tax-and-spend legislature is belied by the irresponsible fiscal policies of the Romney-Healey administration. They have played a fiscal shell game which has caused irreparable damage to cities and towns.

We need to restore our state government to the preeminent place it once held in our country. We can do that by electing Deval Patrick or Tom Reilly this November.”
