We are the Party that reflects the People.

Massachusetts Democrats believe that every person has the right to live a full, meaningful life with equal access to opportunity, security, and inclusion. We believe that our government exists to empower people by providing high-quality public education, ensuring universal access to healthcare, protecting our environment, reducing income inequality, and guaranteeing equal rights and opportunity for all. We believe that when we empower people to organize their local communities, we can change our Commonwealth and our country for the better.

About Our Chair

Stephen J. Kerrigan was elected Chair of the Massachusetts Democratic Party in April 2023. He has dedicated his life to public service, from local government to the State House and the halls of Congress.

Steve currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Edward M. Kennedy Community Health Center. Prior to joining Kennedy Community Health, Steve was the Principal of the Kilgeever Consulting Group, a public affairs firm that focused on government relations, business development and management consulting.

Steve’s career in government and service stretches nearly three decades, from working as a key aide to Senator Edward M. Kennedy to his current position as an elected member of the Select Board in Lancaster. In 2014, Steve was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, earning more than 220,000 votes throughout the Commonwealth. He currently serves as Chair of the Lancaster Select Board.

His record of service to the Democratic Party and the nation is extensive. He served as Chief Executive Officer for the Democratic National Committee Convention in Charlotte in 2012 and Barack Obama’s Presidential Inaugural Committee in 2013 (and was chief of staff for his first inauguration in 2009). More recently, Steve serves as treasurer of the national board of Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America). In Massachusetts, he was chief of staff to both Boston’s Host Committee for the 2004 Democratic National Convention and Massachusetts Attorney General Tom Reilly.

In 2009, Steve was a driving force in the establishment of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund to support the families of fallen service members. The fund has raised more than $2 million in support of Massachusetts military families and provides a stirring reminder of the sacrifices these men and women have made through the annual Memorial Day flag garden on Boston Common and the September 11th Service Program.

A graduate of Saint John’s High School and the University of Maryland, Steve lives in Lancaster with his husband, Jacob.
