Statement in Support of Transgender Equal Rights Bill

Moving the Commonwealth forward means recognizing the universal and fundamental dignity of all people, Walsh says

BOSTON – Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh issued the following statement today after the Transgender Equal Rights Bill was voted out of the Judiciary Committee:

“Everyone is Massachusetts deserves the right to achieve their full potential. Our Commonwealth has a proud history of leading the way on civil rights and once again the eyes of the nation are upon us. Right now, transgender people in Massachusetts can be fired from their job just for being who they are. That’s not right. Passing the transgender rights bill will move us one step closer to achieving fair treatment and equal justice for all. Now that it is out of committee, we hope that the legislature will look past the divisive rhetoric of those who want to move the clock back on civil rights and pass this important bill.  We cannot fully move the Commonwealth forward on the critical issues we face without first recognizing the universal and fundamental dignity of all people, because at the end of the day, we are all in this together.”
